Implant Dentures: Where Comfort Meets Stability
A functional, secure alternative to traditional dentures.
What are implant-supported dentures?
Implant dentures combine the lasting support of dental implants – tiny posts that attach directly to your jawbone – with the aesthetic and practical benefits of dentures.
But unlike traditional dentures, which simply rest on the gums and shift when chewing or speaking, implant-supported dentures are securely anchored into your mouth.
People with a few missing teeth in different areas of the mouth can receive single implants or implant bridges. However, the procedure is especially effective for people missing most or all of their teeth!
Like any other treatment at Arkansas Family Dental, your provider will work closely with you to select and design a customized treatment plan that suits your preferences and lifestyle.
Benefits of implant dentures
If the thought of getting the classic removable dentures you’ve seen in movies has you panicking, don’t worry. Implant dentures are designed to offer all the benefits of a fresh set of teeth without all of the drawbacks.
Our patients love implant dentures because they:
- Don’t slip and shift while going about your day for true comfort
- They look more like natural teeth than traditional dentures
- Compared to classic dentures, they last quite a long time— potentially even a lifetime
- They can stimulate the jaw, helping prevent bone loss
- Revitalize the function, health, and look of teeth
Ready to restore your smile? Implant dentures can help you smile like your younger self again.
Implant denture procedures: an overview
Dental procedures can be intimidating, but our compassionate team of providers is here to guide you through every step. Each person’s treatment journey will be tailored to their unique needs, but in general, you can expect:
- Pre-prosthetic surgery: to prepare for the implants, a dentist will remove decayed and damaged teeth and perform any necessary bone grafting.
- Healing: you may need a few weeks or months to recover from the first step. In the meantime, you will be given a healing denture to wear.
- Implant placement: dental implants in your jawbone.
- Healing: It will take about 3-6 months for your implants to fuse with your jawbone. In the meantime, you will again be given a denture to wear.
- Impressions: when your implants are healed, your dentist will take impressions, send them to a lab, and schedule your final appointment based on their estimated arrival time.
- Denture placement: the last step is the simplest – your dentist will connect your implants and custom dentures.
We want you to feel confident throughout the process, so our team is always available for questions and support.
Aftercare for implant dentures
Most people can return to their routines after a few days and feel back to normal within a week.
Once your implant dentures are in place, proper care can ensure they last a lifetime. Although the dentures themselves typically need to be replaced every 15-20 years, most patients never need the implant surgery again!
Caring for implant dentures is a lot like caring for regular teeth. Make sure to:
- Brush your teeth twice per day
- Floss thoroughly or use a water flosser under the denture and around the implants
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle toothpaste
- Return to the dentist for regular cleanings and exams
No matter what your smile needs to shine, we’re here to provide comprehensive care and compassionate support!
